Issues of privacy and confidentiality are very much related
with new media. For example, Facebook shares information with advertisement
companies, which most users believe is a violation of privacy and
confidentiality.
In new media information is shared all the time it is ideal
that users make sure to adjust privacy settings all the time since they change
often.
After all, giving up privacy has become the price we have to
pay nowadays to get information. If users don't agree to terms they wont be
able to access the web. It is a tradeoff in which every user gets to decide
what is best. Some users believe is totally unethical others believe it doesn't
hurt them at all.
Invasion of privacy is also involved with
homeland security. After 9/11 government agencies are more involved in the web,
they track for comments and people that might be involved with terrorism. In
this case people are more willing to give information up in order to feel
secure.
Hi Paola,
ReplyDeleteIt is true that issues of privacy and confidentiality can be related to new media. With the evolution of new media privacy has lessen. There are some mechanisms in place to combat the compromisation of someone's privacy. However, it is often too easy for hackers to gain access to the data. Nothing is private or confidential anymore. We all just need to be careful of what it is that we post online.
I agree with what you said, I believe that especially nowadays people are willing to give up more information for security. I do believe that sometimes people post things online and don't realize that to them it may be a joke but it can really make people think a different way. What people post online is there decision and they need to be aware that it can be seen by many people, some they don't even know.
